Digitalisation and Brexit viewed from a south-east European perspective

seer cover

The latest issue of the SEER Journal for Labour and Social Affairs in Eastern Europe focuses on the potential effects of digitalization on the labour markets in the region. It also identifies and evaluates the risks of Brexit for Eastern Europe.

The article on digitalization within the information technology sector in Serbia focuses on how far the country is prepared for the digital age. It begins with the development of Serbia’s information society and how it still needs to overcome numerous obstacles such as developing an appropriate infrastructure. It also looks at Serbia’s need to reach a higher level of educational development, with regards to digitalisation.

The article on Brexit shows that the UK’s exit from the EU will have little direct impact on the economy, trade and financial sector in Eastern Europe. However, Brexit could indirectly affect countries in the region, if as predicted Brexit weakens EU integration, which remains an important policy anchor and driving force for south-east Europe.
