ETUI researcher Magdalena Bernaciak was invited to speak at the roundtable discussion on ‘Labour Mobility and Citizenship: Safeguarding Social Standards in Europe’, organised on 3 April at the European Economic and Social Committee by Solidar, a European network of NGOs dealing with labour rights and social justice.

The roundtable presented the results of the Labour Citizenship (LABCIT) project, which identified a number of abuses of social conditions in the context of cross-border labour mobility and put forward policy recommendations to combat the most exploitative practices.

In her contribution to the panel ‘Redefining Social Dumping: Beyond the East-West European Divide’, Magdalena outlined the concept of social dumping, linking it to the process of EU economic integration, and reflected on policy options to combat rule breach and circumvention in the enlarged EU.
