The service SETUP is suspended and not updated for the moment.
What is SETUP?
SETUP (Support for European Trade Union Projects) is the specialised service provided by ETUI and accessible to ETUC affiliates to support work on European funding for trade union activities.
The service, set up in 1994, initially concerned a relatively new field for trade union organisations, namely the strategic use of European funds to strengthen a trade union strategy, and to increase cooperation and exchange in trade union activities.
Today, SETUP is a strategic tool, a combination of on-line and off-line elements, which offers information, training and assistance to trade union officers in fields relating to their trade union activity, such as lifelong learning, industrial relations, socio-economic research, migration, globalisation, sustainable development, equal opportunities, working conditions and non-discrimination. SETUP is also aimed at the trade union stakeholders of the EU candidate countries and of the Pan-European Regional Council (PERC) countries of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).
Every year, SETUP organises transnational project management training courses, for which new methodologies have been developed offering trade union leaders recognised skills. Since 2010, the participants in the “project work ” courses have been earning an accreditation officially recognised by the British TUC and National Open College Network.
Since 2010 a total number of 71 participants received an “award” from the NOCN.
The outcome of the accreditation process is now a new certified three-level training programme designed to address trade union project work at regional, national and European level, with pathways between the levels.
ETUI is also providing a number of certified “Training trainers courses in project work” to equip national trainers for its delivery at national and sectorial level. After the pilot course in Bologna last April 2012, ETUI’s Training Training Trainers in Project Work courses were held in Sofia and in Ljubljana. The next one will be held in Vienna on 2-6.2.2015. Each of the national organisations will be delivering versions of ETUI’s Introductory level course Project Work for Trade Union Representatives.
The participants gave a very useful feedback on the final version of ETUI’s new materials on project work, the “ Toolkit Trade Union Training for Project Work”
The picture here shows Bulgarian, Italian and Chypriot trade union participants of Bologna course receiving the award of NOCN from Silvana Pennella, ETUI and the TUC assessor Colin Arthur.
An intermediate level course will take place in Edinburgh, in cooperation with TUC on17-21.3.2014, and in Courcelle, in cooperation with CGT,on 27-31.10.2014. SETUP also organises training courses on the European Social Fund and on European grants for health and safety at work and for social dialogue, in cooperation with the ETUC and the European Commission.
The training activities are backed up by several handbooks and guides designed to help trade union members to devise and manage European projects. The handbooks can be downloaded free from our Publications/Guides page.
For following up the development and the latest news of what we do in this area of work, consult our newsletter SETUP news-training.
SETUP organises 'Information Days' for the national confederations and the European trade union federations. These days are dedicated to European funding, the use of European projects as a strategic tool and the management of transnational projects.
In addition, a ' projects corner' allows anyone interested to look up and exchange information on line about existing trade union projects.
The new toolkit Trade Union Training for Project Work produced by the Education Department of the European Trade Union Institute aims to support its programme of certified training in project work and project management for trade unions.
In the framework of the services offered by SETUP, Silvana Pennella delivered an Information day on EU funds and European projects for Trade Unions, organized in Madrid by the Fundación 1º de Mayo, last 25 October 2012.
ETUI, together with ETUC and a core group of affiliates, tutors and experts, has been working for two years to a larger strategy in order to produce a certified three-level training programme designed to address trade union project needs at regional, national and European level.
