November issue of Transfer out now

cover Transfer

The new edition of Transfer, the European Review of Labour and Research, has just been published. The open issue of the peer-reviewed journal includes articles on the financial crisis, the emergence of new social actors, transnational social dialogue and employee engagement.

The first two articles focus on the impact of the financial crisis. One examines how the crisis tested the flexicurity system in Denmark, concluding that cooperation between the social partners helped the Danish welfare system respond effectively. A second article compares flexicurity in Denmark and austerity policies in the UK to examine the interplay of internal factors determining outcomes. It concludes that adjustment paths in the two countries varied according to the nature of their welfare states and industrial relations systems.

Three of the articles tackle new challenges for workplace representation. One of these (which is available free to read here until 26 December 2018) deals with the emergence of highly qualified self-employed professionals; another offers an analysis of a strike carried out by migrant women working in the Swiss social care sector; while the third deals with the rise of professional unions in Germany. The sixth article in the journal analyses the way in which habitus in social relations at national level interferes with attempts to establish a transnational social dialogue. The final article analyses the impact on well-being, job satisfaction and stress of management strategies centred on deep employee involvement.
