Top trio of EU leaders to open ‘Europe at a Crossroads’ conference on future of jobs

Crossroads conference

The future of jobs and prosperity will be the focus of a major 3-day ETUC-ETUI conference starting today in Brussels. EU incoming Economic and Financial Affairs Commissioner Pierre Moscovici, outgoing Employment Commissioner László Andor and EU Parliament President Martin Schulz will feature in the opening debate on the future of employment and growth on 24 September.

Less than one week before the start of the Parliamentary hearings of the proposed commissioners of Commission President Juncker’s new team, trade union representatives will be able to go into debate with newly elected policymakers and academic experts of Social Europe. More than 450 participants will get involved in political debates and academic presentations on issues such as Europe’s ailing labour markets, wages, social dumping, migration, green jobs, worker participation, psycho-social risks, collective bargaining and many more. The conference wants to demonstrate that there are credible alternatives to the EU’s failed austerity policies and inspire the newly elected leaders of Europe.

In the next few days, we will report on this web site with short summaries of the main debates. Real-time coverage through social media (tweets, pictures, video interviews and comments) will be also be available via a special Conference Storify web site.
