Expert Workshop on Living Wages in Europe

The ETUI organized an expert workshop “Living Wages in Europe”, in cooperation with the Institute for Economic and Social Research (WSI) of the Hans Böckler Foundation in Germany. The aim of the workshop was to bring together experts on the issue of minimum and living wages in order to discuss the possibilities of promoting the concept of the living wage across Europe as one way to address the ever-increasing problem of in-work poverty and as a means to ensure a decent standard of living for workers. As you can see from the programme, the first day of the workshop started with a discussion of conceptual issues and a session on the UK living wage as the most advanced example of a living wage movement in Europe. We then continued on the second day with a concrete company example. The workshop concluded with a panel discussing whether it is time for a European approach to living wages.

The presentations can be downloaded below, as well as the background paper by Paul Sellers.
