Grigor Gradev scholarship 2019 is open for applications

Grigor Gradev

Applications have opened for the 2019 round of the Gridor Gradev scholarship for young researchers. The three month scholarship based at the ETUI was set up in honour of Grigor Gradev, the former Director of the CITUB research institute, who died in 2016.

The scholarship is awarded annually and is funded by the ETUC and ITUC with support from affiliates and Solidarity Support Organisations.  It is aimed at researchers specialising in labour relations studies and who have a concrete research project focused on Central and Eastern Europe, the South-Eastern Europe, the Caucasus or Central Asia on issues that refer to to improving workers’ rights and dignity.

The scholarship is open to researchers under 35 years old who speak and write in English and already have a track record of publications in the field of industrial relations, ideally with a focus on transition economies. They should have a developed research proposal for a project dealing with Central and Eastern Europe, South Eastern Europe, the Caucasus or Central Asia. Living and research costs will be covered and the scholar will get the chance to present their research findings at relevant events.

Last year’s Gridor Gradev scholar, Ieva Bloma, a PhD student at the European University Institute in Florence, worked at the ETUI for three months in 2018 on a project to map how compliance with working and safety conditions has been affected by austerity measures enacted in the wake of the crisis. She presented her research at the TURI conference in Berlin on 16-18 May 2018.
