Workers’ health and safety on the agenda of an ETUI/ETUC conference on ‘The world(s) of work in transition’

Health and safety in the workplace is one of the many topics that will be discussed at the three-day conference organised by the ETUI and the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) in Brussels from 27 to 29 June.

On Wednesday, 27 June ETUI researcher Laurent Vogel will moderate a panel discussion on the impact the extension of working lives will have on political decisions concerning improvements in working conditions.

On Thursday, 28 June Fabienne Scandella, an ETUI researcher responsible for examining work-related psychosocial risks, will lead a discussion on ‘Psychosocial risks: shifting focus to positive values’. The organisation of work and staff management methods have rightly been identified as two of the main psychosocial risks factors in workplaces. Rather than discussing problematic situations once again, the speakers will look at innovative methods of organising work (e.g. self-managed or ‘liberated’ companies) and managing personnel.

On the same day Marian Schaapman, head of ETUI Unit 3 (Working conditions and health and safety at work), will moderate a panel discussion aimed at assessing the impact of automation on working conditions and on health and safety in terms of cognitive abilities and decision-making mechanisms.
