Priority 1: Policies and tools for the future of Europe

A wide range of far-right parties are represented in the EU Parliament at government level and in communities. Europe could tilt towards chauvinism, xenophobia and the rejection of core values such as democracy and equality. Trade unions and work places are endangered by this development.

Especially in times before the EU-parliamentary Elections, how can trade unions effectively counteract this trend?

The course will have two face to face workshops.

In the first one (29-31 October 2018), we will analyse the situation and current trade union practices in dealing with the far right as well as define the European dimension of trade unions actions.

In the second workshop, we will focus on assessing and improving the strategies and tools that participants will have applied between the two courses.

The second workshop will take place on 3-5 April 2019 in Budapest.

Objectives of the first workshop:

  • Identify the current strengths and weaknesses of the far right in Europe;
  • Define core terms of the training and discuss their boundaries
  • Discuss trade union strategies and practices;
  • Evaluate impact of trade union practices and their transferability;
  • To plan the field activity and its European dimension to be applied between the two courses.
